To understand the appeal of Kentucky singer/songwriter Josh Merritt, you simply need to spend a few minutes shooting the breeze with him. He has a way of putting people at ease in conversation with his big smile and small town sincerity not to mention unmistakable laugh. In short, this gregarious musician with a southern mentality has the elusive X-factor that separates entertainers from the pack - something that is immediately apparent when he takes the stage. A native of Owensboro, KY, Merritt has been making music since the early age of 9 years old after his father brought him home his first guitar. As a child he quickly picked up a love for writing songs and even more so for performing them. His warm heart and eagerness to entertain made him a natural on stage in no time at all.

"It's literally all I've ever wanted to do." he says. "I can remember telling my kindergarten teacher I wanted to be a country music singer. Now I'm 26 and rolling into big cities I never thought I would see to play shows for people I've never met. It's a dream come true."

Merritt's been working relentlessly the last several years after giving up a very lucrative day job and diving head first into playing music full time as a career. "It was very scary." says Josh. "I tried to do both for a while but it became impossible. I was and am very thankful for my time at Acme but it just wasn't what I was set on doing forever. I learned a lot about hard work there though. Lessons that keep me motivated in what I do now. One of my favorite bible verses is Matthew 6:24 which says no one can serve two masters because you will always give one more effort then the other. So with the support of some great friends and family I just went for it and never looked back."

Now having traveled across the country sharing his music Merritt has played venues of every size, traveling to places like Key West, Fl; Little Rock, AR; Nashville, TN; Louisville, KY; Des Moines, IO; and Chicago, IL. With a hefty tour schedule and the release of a new live album scheduled for spring, 2017 is already becoming a busy year.

Quotes and Reviews

“Josh can sing. He can play. And he absolutely knows how to take charge of a room and command a crowd. And he does it with electric musicality and personality. He’s a big guy with a big smile and big talent. Music’s in Josh’s soul and his love for it pours out of him every-time he throws a guitar strap around his shoulder and steps up to a mic.”

“Of all the talented people I’ve had the pleasure of working with, Josh Merritt is a standout in my mind. He is naturally charismatic and strikes me as a born entertainer. He’s got the voice to go with it. But these things alone don’t make an artist’s career and Josh knows that. He also has the drive to get there and he knows who he wants to be.”
— Andy Brasher- Singer/Songwriter Owensboro, KY

Being as busy as I am during our event, I don’t get time to watch many of the artists on stage. But, with Josh and his band being local, I wanted to take a minute to watch. I ended up watching 3 full songs, and was super impressed. The thing that stood out the most for me was how comfortable Josh looked on that big stage. He looked like he belonged, because he does! I believe the sky is the limit for Josh.

“Some people are great singers. Some people are great performers. But the best ENTERTAINERS take those two key elements and combine them with a unique connection to the audience. Watch Josh Merritt on stage and ask yourself how many people you’ve seen bring you into the circle like he does. And then listen to his original music and wonder how often lyrics seriously ring with reality like his do. Josh truly is a complete package.”
